New High-Tech Sports Bar Boasts ‘Burgh’s Largest High-Def Theater
PITTSBURGH—January 22, 2010—Rivers Casino scores a homerun with the newest addition to its lineup of nine bars and restaurants, Wheelhouse Bar & Grill. Named for the sweet spot in a baseball player’s swinging range, Wheelhouse is a high-tech sports bar featuring more than 40 flat screens for viewing multiple games, and a high-definition theater with the largest floor-to-ceiling TV in Pittsburgh. Wheelhouse is also home to FSN Pittsburgh’s live pregame hockey broadcast. During away games, fans are invited to attend and watch the live FSN pregame show while enjoying Wheelhouse’s extensive lineup of pub fare and drinks.
Not Your Average Corner Bar
Wheelhouse is located in the corner of the casino overlooking the Ohio River and Heinz Field. Its high-style and polished interiors were created by Floss Barber, a Philadelphia-based interior design firm.
A blue beacon of light from the 55-foot bar visually draws customers in, where a series of separate spaces play off each other. Additional light emitting from more than 40 televisions creates pockets of different colors within Wheelhouse when reflected off the ceiling. Wheelhouse accommodates 300 patrons between the bar and individual tables and booths. The bar and grill’s furnishings include rich, brown leather and soft, muted suede fabrics.
“Wheelhouse has its own playful but powerful spirit—separate from that of the casino,” said Ellen Levin, project manager at Floss Barber. “It’s a next-generation sports bar where you can enjoy viewing a variety of broadcasts alone, on a date, in a group or with a party.” An outside terrace with fire pits, a lounge area and uninterrupted city views will appeal to die-hard tailgaters who must be outside for their game-day revelry.
Everything on the Menu
Wheelhouse has something on the menu for everyone, whether they’re coming in to watch a game or meeting colleagues for a drink. “Tailgate Teasers,” “Homerun Sandwiches,” “Out of the Park Entrees” and “Postgame Highlights” are sure to please anyone’s palate. Additionally, a full roster of beers and wine are available for patrons.
“Whether you’re in the mood for wings or filet mignon—we’ve got it all at Wheelhouse,” said Richard Marmion, executive chef for Rivers Casino. “The food and beverage offerings, paired with the unique environment for sports fans and foodies, make Wheelhouse a homerun.”
